the clothes absorbs the damage and instead of receiving physical wounds. The clothes become sacrifice. You could tell with lots of cuts on the pants on what itsuwa wear. Lots of ceremonial symbolism to make use of clothes as the receiver of damage and it can even use as weapons of even use to stop the flow of magic. Just like in vol 14.
