Well, for what I understand....

Risa was Itami's Senpai in their past, their marriage wasn't out of love but rather more like a business arrangement, I'm not sure about the details but I think that Risa was the one with the idea (I think her pick up line was something like "Keep me feed and I'll play the wife"). Their divorce has to do with monetary reasons and Risa has been living a harsh life ever since (though her luck with money is picking up by the time the novel happens).
I think Piņa read one of her doujins
