Hashirama was a tough nut to crack...maybe it was an act of desperation. After all, Naruto hates using the Kyuubi's powers but he did go 8.5-tails against Pain. At any rate, I find a wasted eye (be it from Izanagi or a kunai-in-the-eye-socket) a lot more probable than Obito's reincarnation or an extra unknown Uchiha...At any rate, I won't deny the fact that there are many possibilities, Naruto is a manga that can branch into many possible subplots, so almost anything can happen.
