Actually, the incident happened because Ken become a couple with his childhood friend, which caused his sister to have a mental breakdown, she become hospitalized and Ken spent majority of his time taking care of his sister, because he felt guilty for causing her so much pain. Ken was always with his sister during this period, this caused some tention between his new girlfriend and him, which eventually caused them to break up, and then his childhood friend moved away. After this, our Key-kun become convinced he need to love everybody equally, so no one can get hurt.
