Hehe, apparently, Pirate Captains have a magical girl transformation scenes these days.
Spoiler for episode 10:
Small discrepancies aside, this show borders on harder sci-fi at times. Things like firing antimatter missiles ahead to your jump in point to clear spacedust, and the constant bombardment of the hull by said spacedust and micrometeors as they speed through space is surprisingly realistic.
It also answers a few more questions about the Bentenamaru's capabilities. First, it has missiles, more specifically a general purpose launcher array, so FTL missiles, probes, decoys are all fair game in her bag of tricks. Second, it does appear that She is a tough nut, and that the armor isn't just there to hold the paint on.
Played more for the LULz than anything, the bridge crew kicking Marika and the Princess off the bridge after 8 hours felt really mean, and I agreed with Marika that it feels they aren't taking her seriously. Ya'll are pirates for crying out loud, rules are merely a loose guideline.
Also speaking of Marika, every time she appears on screen I can't help but think the following progression: So cute! So competent! So decisive! Give her something besides her school uniform to wear already!
As for the episode as a whole, while I can't say it was rushed, I feel like there is a whole lot that was skipped over. A bunch was implied that I wish they'd taken a bit of time to voice fully. Specifically, the details of the Barbarosa and Chiaki-chan masquerading as the Bentenmaru. I feel there was some prime MarikaxChiaki-chan material left on the cutting room floor. I'm also curious about Chiaki-chan's father, and how well the 2 pirate ships get along.
All and all it was a nice episode, but I want more dammit!
