Well, it the previous arcs, we've only seen her in the context of "Beatrice is here! Everyone's gonna die! YAAAAY!" Which is obviously going to color our perceptions of her a bit.
Mind you, there may be more behind it--Maria seemed to switch between being a rather inarticulate 9-year-old and using a LOT of big words depending on the circumstances.
