So what's stopping Gregor from shooting his cannon again once he located the gallians?
He was literally using the Darcsens as a human shield to buy him time so that he can destroy the Gallian forces. It was either them or him.
That's what commanders do, making the hard choices, deciding who gets to live and die and that' what war is about which is what they showed here.
