Don't get me wrong. I do see this as weird. But it was such an enjoyable kind of weird that I couldn't help but laugh. It's like KyoAni was rubbing it into their fanbase's faces that they don't need physical contact to portray relationships. I don't know what their obsession is with that kind of thinking (along with their absolute refusal to use fanservice), but I laugh every time I picture it.
