There are literally hundreds of mainstream action fantasy anime, roughly 4 out of 5 sharing the same character types and storylines...but they're still very successful. So, even if HotD looks like something you've seen before (I haven't watched Gantz or Hellsing so I can't comment on them), it doesn't mean that it will be necessarily bad or uninteresting.
