The Phenom is the faster CPU. Both of them are socket AM3 CPU's and will work fine with your motherboard. AM3+ is a better socket than AM3, but the quad core AM3+ CPU's are a bit lacking. The 8 cores are good if you can utilize all the cores effectively.
How hot is your summer? ...
You should try cleaning out the heatsink/fan for the CPU. It shouldn't get hot enough for problems to occur on stock. Even in the middle of summer with air conditioning off, I can still run my Athlon II heavily overclocked with stock heatsink/fan.
I would wait and see if you actually need a better CPU heatsink/fan before you buy it.
