All the popular characters are getting power ups..

Unohana was insignificant to the story, being a strong character though she was ideal to power up Zaraki. It's gonna be the manga faves and a few other heavy hitters going up against the VR and probably Aizen too to finish the series. All the other captains and lieutenants exist solely to show off how powerful the enemy is at this point.
