The second one lets you corrupt and turn your companions into dark jedi, which is extremely cool; and KOTOR 2 features some great companions. As I mentioned there is the restored content mod that does much to fix a lot of what was wrong or missing with the original release... I've not taken the time to play through most of the mod, but the game should be especially well worth playing through now. Though one should still be expecting bugs and some jarring moments related to the mod.
