If only they had stayed faithful to the source material, they could have easily had material for two more seasons. But as it stands, it seems this is the best compromise given the circumstances.
They shouldn't completely shelve the property after this though. Have Suu write up a full "Fumoffu"-type season to offset all the heavy drama currently in the manga, and both camps will be happy.
