Both the aesthetic and functionality. Japanese Onsen are just that unique. Besides, there's no bamboo in Europe so making natural-looking onsen is plain impossible.
Remember the German topic on Irish and Laura's road trip? If not, they're luxurious and secluded, more like a large indoor jacuzzi than anything else. Meanwhile, artificial hot bath in Japan looks like a shallow swimming pool.
