From what I understand, esdes tribe has the whole 'survival of the fittest' mentality. Presumably because of where they live and how there are apparently a lot of dangerous beasts there. Esdes mother was killed by one of them and her father tells Esdes 'yes, this is the natural way of things. The weak die. I was sad but thats natural'
