If Ymir dies then the story is pretty much going nowhere. The characters are back where they started 6 months ago, with barely any new info on what the hell is going on, except they've suffered severe losses and there are more dangerous titans emerging. The plot has been basically stuck in a bunch of fetch quests hoping for some new development on the mysteries for like a year now. It's starting to look like the author doesn't know where to take the story.
