Now the ad had a print version in which it shows airliners flying toward the southern part of Manhattan with the Towers still there. The ad was disavowed by WWF, but now DDB Brasil is saying that it was approved in Dec 2008.

A disturbing (esp. if you saw the actual event, IMHO) video presentation - now being said as not being official - can also be found on YouTube, unless it gets pulled...

Why would an ad for a group to protect and preserve the environment be using a human-caused attack as its driving point instead of, say, the 2005 tsunami in APac or 2008 earthquake in China... Both are rather sensitive topics, but at least they were, well, natural disasters. Perhaps trying to get people involved and say, "Yes, you can make a difference"?

WWF says that they weren't involved in the making of that ad.

WWF strongly condemns this offensive and tasteless ad and did not authorize its production or publication. It is our understanding that it was a concept offered by an outside advertising agency seeking our business in Brazil. The concept was summarily rejected by WWF and should never have seen the light of day. It is an unauthorized use of our logo and we are aggressively pursuing action to have it removed from websites where it is being currently featured. We strongly condemn the messages and the images portrayed in this ad. On behalf of WWF, here in the US and around the world, we can promise you this ad does not in any way reflect the thoughts and feelings of the people of our organization.
