- Not necessarily. I mean, dense male leads aren't the only way to make harems possible--you could have a male lead that's solely focused on one girl but hasn't won her yet (thus the other girls are trying their best to win him over before he succeeds).

...or you could do the School Days Makoto route (disgusted).

A more interesting one is if a guy does get the girl at first hint, but later finds out he's not really in love with her when he really meets a girl he likes---oooh, that would cause some complications.
