They are not traditionally genetically related. Mars and Athena did not get together to produce 2 kids. So you can't use that term for them. That is why the anime makers can have it both ways. This Ugly and Beautiful World did a similar thing.
She prob cares for both but Eden was about to get whipped by Koga. She prob saw Koga's power up coming.
