Yes, Princess Tutu is great. Especially great if you don't actually mind the transformation scenes. Then it becomes perfect. ^_^ I never was a big fan of mahou shoujo though... I warn you though you might get quite sad when it comes to the end of the end....
It gets confusing the first 2 episodes, but don't worry - just keep on until the last episode, episode 26... and you'll be very satisfied. ^_^
There have been many good things said about Full Moon wo Sagashite, you might want to try that. I think it's aimed at girls around 12 or so...
