I doubt that really means anything. Newtype's character polls have had Kira and Lacus from Gundam SEED consistently appearing in the Top Ten for years after SEED and Destiny finished without any justification for doing so.
And you can also explain Touma's appearance in the polls to the newly-released movie and not just his role in Railgun.
