It would presumably not be that simple, or else Asuna would have already gotten a message to the outside world on her own. People hear "damsel in distress" and immediately think "helpless damsel in distress that does nothing but sit around wringing her hands waiting for the hero to save her", and forget about the "damsel in distress that does everything within her power to resist and escape her captors, they've just done a good enough job of securing her that she's stuck waiting for help."
Asuna's personality is definitely not the first type. If it were as easy as you make it sound, Asuna or one of the other 300 would have long ago learned what was happening in the real world, convinced people that they were one of the still "asleep" SAO players, and their circumstances wouldn't be a mystery, but rather something known to their next of kin, and being actively worked on.

Out of curiosity, why do people keep calling them "not blood related"? They're first cousins. Whether or not it's culturally acceptable in a given part of the world does not change the fact that it's a blood relationship.
