My guess is that she had some sort of unrequited love with the main characters father, hence why seeing him beg her to do something had such a big impact on her.

I don't know much about Genji's exploits, but I have seen him referenced in other manga, specifically in Take Moon/Carnival Phantasm and Fujimura-kun Mates. In both cases, the Hikaru Genji plan was to raise someone into their ideal lover.
