Simple. To me, Slice of Life began with the Haruhi series. If I'm wrong, I'm still right.
(Though, I'd actually be willing to discount Haruhi as Slice of Life, and categorize it as something else).
I see others have noted other series to compare to - BUT - I never bothered to watch them. Therefore, I'm stuck with K-ON as my main comparison.
