Spoiler for Episode 1:
What an entertaining first episode in my opinion. Even though I liked Captain Harlock, one of Matsumoto's previous works, I don't have any exposure to Yamato until now, and I could say it was very good. It has a old school space opera approach, it reminds me very much on my experience with Captain Harlock, and the fight scenes are well-done. I also very much liked the character designs, they're pretty distinctive thanks to its diversely large cast, and I feel like I was watching the first part of a movie as well. The pacing is a bit slow, but it progresses very nicely thanks to its awesome story. The music is very retro as well and I liked the opening theme's remake a lot. I will probably try a few more episodes, and I heard the movie version is still halfway, so it's most likely that it will end this year.
