When you consider the fact he had previously easily impressed Erina and her grandfather, that hardly seems special.
Besides, some of those other nameless mooks also got an A for their dish.
Given that Souma's set-up as a character already establishes him as highly skilled, even if unorthodox, it makes sense that he's a class above characters who don't even get names to themselves.
