I think the increase in contrast might be due to zooming in too much. I don't really add any filter or anything (because I don't zoom in).
Might be a good idea to try different resizers (especially when you are doing sigs); I only use bicubic, though.
your works look great and you are also taking requests (which I find hard sometimes, that's why I don't do them). I don't really do much work; if you noticed, most of the freebies are just static ones (crop + add border).
