There was a few nice developments in this volume, but I felt the developments were somewhat slow. Also, a few developments that were pretty sudden and honestly kind of disappointing, especially the double contract thing. Well, better than dragging the series longer with more new characters, I guess.
The illustrations weren't interesting at all this time though... A little bit more on the serious parts and little less on the boobs and all, please...
Seems someone already posted summaries, so I wasn't sure whether I should do it this time or not, but for my sake too, I decided to just write one:
Spoiler for volume 20 summary:
Chapter 1:
Continuing from last time, Saito and co. have escaped the Elf capital and is riding on a boat out of that place.
Saito and Derf. talk about stuff that have happened to him, but Derf never tries to talk about what he had remembered about Primir before he was destroyed.
Later at night, Saito and Tiffania talk about how brave and whatever Saito is for being able to fight so valiantly and all. Some little part about Saito feeling wish-washy again (yeah, let’s spend another volume on that!) and Tiffania kisses Saito, kind of like those give-up kiss type of atmosphere.
Anyways, Saito decided to try his best (not anything new).
So the next day, they reach an island where Lukshana says her friend is. They decide to go meet her friend.
*insert a whole bunch of stupid breast-focused comedy*
They have to go through water, so Lukshana creates some magic to allow them to breathe and they swim to where her friend, Umihaha (Mother of the Sea), is.
Chapter 2:
It was a water dragon. Figures…
After a lot of talking about how dragons don’t hate the devil’s decedents/Void like the Elves do and how she doesn’t know where the Gate is, Lukshana and co. gain permission to hide in the cave.
And then three days pass…
More time passes, and Tiffania learned how to swim. Seems she has an affinity with water…
But one time, while swimming, a Sea Dragon appeared and attacked Saito and Tiffania. Saito was losing, but with the power of boobs (ugh…), Saito manages to stab the dragon with Derf… However, he had a hard time pulling Derf out. But when he finally pulled it out, the dragon had dragged him near his lair. Anyways, relieved, Saito sits down on a nearby rock… only to find it was actually a submarine.
Chapter 3:
Lukshana, Tiffania, and Saito search the Submarine. They find at the end a nuclear bomb.
You know, I’m surprised Saito recognized the Russian words and figured out it was Russian. Last time I checked, he wasn’t exactly supposed to be smart or studious… Whatever…
Saito is wondering over whether he should use the nuke or not, as a card in diplomacy.
Tiffania prepares to summon a familiar…
Chapter 4:
Back at the elf capital… A meeting was held on the escape of Saito and co. A group led by a new character called Esmile tries to get Bidashal into trouble, but another new character called Tyuluke saves him. But in the end. Esmile decides to go and attack Saito.
After a talk about what might happen next between Bidashal and Airi, Bidashal gives Airi a letter and tells him to run and hide away in Gallia until all of this is over.
Bitashal goes and talks with Tyuluke, who reveals to him that the Dragon’s Cave (where Saito is) is indeed Shaitan’s Gate, and that what he fears is that if an army comes from beyond that gate, the elves could be annihilated. And for that, he wishes to send Bidashal to the west, to figure out what the people there are planning to do.
Now then, on Esmile’s side, he decides to send his troops, led by another new character, Fatima (Luminous Arc?) to the Dragon’s Cave.
Dang, the illustration here and these two spells out “噛ませ犬” in big bold letters.
Chapter 5:
Umihaha sees Saito still thinking about what to do, and anyways, after a little talk, she brings him and the other two to a place deeper in the cave, where lots of stuff from Earth layed. He managed to find many usable weapons.
He starts to realize the cave is actually the Gate when suddenly, explosions started occurring from above.
Saito decides to become the decoy and have the other two girls escape. He goes out on his own and tries to get the enemies’ attention…
But it turns out that the enemy outside was a decoy too, and the main army including Fatima actually went into the water.
The two girls encounter Fatima and her soldiers and get shot. Nearly dying, Tiffania tries to summon a familiar, and Saito pops up from the gate she opened.
He sees what is going on and takes out all of the enemies. How weak…
He realizes that he was summoned as Tiffania’s familiar and kisses her, sealing the pact and faints.
By the way, apparently Tiffania’s power of love broke all rules about only one servant per master and all. Hahaha, talk about plot device. Bleh.
Chapter 6:
A little scene with the leaders of the countries talking to each other.
Afterwords, we get a scene where Vittorio and Julio explain to the viewers that they have their own agenda and what they tell the public and others were actually lies.
Then we get a scene where Josette, that stupid fairy-tale minded girl, tries to summon a familiar and says that if it wasn’t Julio, she would kill herself.
Well, it was Julio.
So now the four familiars are actually just two, Saito being two and Julio being two.
Chapter 7:
Louise gets cheered up.
Colbert has a plan involving taking an elf hostage and trading it for Saito and Tiffania.
Chapter 8:
As Colbert and co.’ ship continues its journey towards the Elf capital, patrolling elves try attacking them and they all end up getting shot down.
A ship also tried to stop them, but it got heavily damaged.
In the meantime, with her usual tofu-level mentality, Louise is shaking and despairing as usual (what was the point of the previous chapter…), but Siesta comes in and helps her think more positively.
In other words, more cheering up.
Chapter 9:
A group of elven ships prepare to face Louise and co., but similar to Fatima and co., they talk big and activate a whole bunch of flags, and… easily get sunk by Louise’s Explosion.
And so, with those ships sunk, the group prepares to reach their target…
Epilogue:
Saito wakes up in Airi’s submarine-like dragon ship. It seems he saved them. Tiffania managed to stay alive too, just barely. Fatima also was brought into the ship (Oh great, are we gonna waste a chapter on her?).
Saito realizes the runes on his chest and asks Derf. what is happening. He doesn’t answer.
Eh?
They were talking about Void in general, how when a Void dies, a new Void somewhere else is born. Not that the 4th void is a zombie.

A overall summary is much appreciated Serenade_Beta . Still, I can't believe this is the third last volume. I look forward to see how they are gonna wrap this up, and what Saito's new ability will be. Something about the human weapon thing I guess.
Personally I reckon Saito should just make a kung-fu pole-arm and go Shaolin monk on the pope
