in a broad sense yes Chocolate is a spice as well including cheese can be also included as a spice, its actually said that depending on how its used certain ingredients can be used as spices hence why Meguri said that Garlic is also considered as a spice in a broad sense these includes firewood for smoking purposes since it can impart flavor which is actually the general definition of spices
