It becomes lonely for a person when the person in question finds the life of the characters, more exciting than theirs, and in fact at times wishes to be the said character. Sometimes I have been guilty of this myself.

That is directly the point of anime, of all entertainment: to provide an escape from reality through the suspension of disbelief. You
should feel the vicarious thrill of imagining living life through another person.
Identifying with characters in any form of entertainment does not make you lonely.
