Weird theories. Myself, I imagine that Urahara had to hide the Hougyoku inside someone, before Rukia. Consequently, Isshin, who volunteered for it, became a renegade and lost his powers. The Hougyoku is known to drain a shinigami's power. After having it in him for so long, once Urahara took it from him (Perhaps because Isshin felt terrible being unable to protect his wife), it took a long while for him to find his powers back, whilst Urahara tried to find a replacement body: Rukia.
I don't think there's any relation between Ichigo and Kaien beyond physical resemblance.
