I don't think anyone "hates" Kaede per se. But then I wasn't around for the legendary shipping wars over this series. I can't presume to speak for anyone else, but for me Asa was just more of a genuine character all around. Plus her relationship with Rin really developed over the course of the whole series and wasn't simply based on whims like Sia, Nerine & Primula's attachments to him. As for Kaede, for all her good-heartedness and sweetness she is still very much a doormat character and I have a general disdain for doormats.
