It was Miho, not Maho, who was leading BFP when they lost to Pravda. And those were PzKpfw III with the L/60 gun around her flag Tiger H, one of which went sliding into the drink. Miho seems to have preferred to use the smallest tanks that could do the job and fight a battle of manuver, even when she had the choice of the some of the heaviest tanks allowed under the rules.
Maho is the eldest, but wonder if she was not the favorite daughter prior to that incident? Although I haven't started the "Little Army" manga that covers Miho's grade school years(!) yet which should confirm it. Because if its true that Miho prefers small tanks, that kind of fighting demands aggressiveness to pull off successfully, and that would seem to please her Mom.
Maho I think is just trying to avoid being embarrased like Pravda was, she is fighting to not lose, rather than fighting to win, and is resorting to overkill.
