This should really be asked in the Q&A section instead, but I'll answer them here.
1. Seasons 1 and 2 take place on Earth. In Season 3, they're in another world.

42". Basically, their weapons are like highly tuned machines used to form spells. The magazines and stuff are used for additional power. Magic is stored in 'cartridges' for use when they need a power boost.
