This is going to be a real problem; unless one has to learn to be open-minded and able to try something different, it'll be hard to appreciate different genres in a wider spectrum far from the very few types of shows you
really like.
About Madoka's character designs: it makes for a very sharp contrast to the situations they're placed in, and their very cuteness is what makes them vulnerable to possible emotional breakage.
