Well, if the story follows the Chpt 00 original arc that begat the whole series, then Utsumi will end up with Yuki, thanking Shou for teaching him what it means to love. Its kind of like Macross in reverse, where the long story came first, followed by the shorter more compact movie version. This in reverse where a short story one-shot caused a whole multi tankouban series to occur, so we're reading an expanded version of the original.
The Mangaka may throw a curveball and end it the way you say, but I think the odds are against it.
