Since DYRL is a part of the Macross canon (as the movie within the series) it wouldn't be unusual for its 'soundtrack' to become mainstream. They probably even had Minmay sing the soundtrack for the film
. And the image shown in Frontier...looking at it again it was the only 'stylized' still-frame shown. All other footage was animated (like the Zentradi fleet and attack on Earth). That being it could be just a 'movie poster' or some promotional image for the movie since, technically speaking, there would be no real footage of that scene (and they wanted something that included a greater number of the main cast like Roy).
