Well, the writers do decide about the characters, so of course if the character performs poorly and is disappointing one can really blame the writing. It doesn't change the fact that those fictional entities are treated as a person when it comes to evaluation of their performance. At least that's how I see it.

I feel the same way, but that's all the more reason why I don't see how any of those deaths was the fault of any of the old casts. These characters made their decisions, and some died. That is all there is to it.
