I bet they're using the time to try to figure out some way to resolve this mess in less than 60 minutes. Personally I don't think it can be done in any way that gives any degree of closure to all the cast members, the plot line and ties it together in a satisfactory way to the originals storyline. They just plain wasted way too much time with story arcs that went nowhere or simply resulted in an immediate return to the status quo and/or net zero development for anyone other than Ao and in some cases even for him.
IMO it was already too late regardless of whether we got the last couple episodes on time or in a delayed fashion as the ship has kind of already sailed on what is certain to be a very disappointing and unsatisfying conclusion to a pretty disappointing and unsatisfying sequel to Eureka Seven, but I guess we'll see shortly what they manage to come up with.
