In Japan they do cost 500 yen (if I remember correctly). The problem is that the store in America where you buy it has to import it as well. So they have to pay for shipping and taxes just like you have to if you import it yourself. So naturally they can't just sell it to you for 7 bucks. They want to make a profit afterall.
