Just a historical note. The reason the US immigration policy is so harsh is because of the massive influx of immigrants during the early 1900's. My family is an example of this, having come from Ireland before the Depression. And yes, immigration prejudice applied even then. Not only among "real" Americans, but among the different ethnic groups as well. Irish need not apply and all that.
