There was Sylvarant and then there was Tethe'Alla. These worlds were split before Symphonia's end. There could be people who wish to separate again. Perhaps the split Mithos made was more preferrable.

This information can be found on Wikipedia. Or anywhere else that some info about the story behind the upcoming game. I'm only assuming people will hope that Ratatosk may be key in separating the worlds again. But I don't really know anything about Ratatosk, except its slumber supposedly has something to do with the chaos in the new world.
