I've extracted the game script and look at it in Firefox with the Rikaichan extension while playing the game. It doesn't get much lazier than looking up words by mouse over.

My complete lack of vocabulary is barely slowing me down. It's trying to understand the grammar, which I thought I was OK at, that is. I still hope to be better at that than any machine.

I second this. It appears as 譜面を再現 in discussions about chess. Is it an expression? Or is it just a metaphor that we are supposed to figure out?

as

Kinzo. Do you remember......?
That musical piece of chess you played with me, which was still ongoing......?

So if it's not to do with music, they don't know about it.
