With most VN adaptations, they only allocate enough budgets for 1cour. I always argue that its simply not enough to cover the VN at all with 1cour, it's almost like: Character intros --> 4 eps to rush the story. Chaos;Head is a really good example. VN was done by the same companies as SG, and story wasn't bad, but getting only 1cour destroyed the adaptation. Tsukihime would be another example (Vn fans: What? Type-moon never animated that, I don't know what you're talking about...).
For a VN adapt to be done
right, I feel 2cour is the
minimum a studio should shoot for, but budget cuts nowadays simply won't allow for such big investments.
