After hearing nothing of this series for a couple of years, I finally recalled why I love this series so much. It's surprising how the novels contain a wealth of internal monologues, alternate perspectives, and side stories that the anime adaptation failed to explore. Still, whether animated or written, it is apparent that this story's strengths lie in its heartfelt character interactions.
Anyway, feeling kinda bummed about the crammed ending of the fourth season, I decided to go for the novel translations, though I waited for volume 27 to come out to continue with the parts the anime left out.
I just finished reading volumes 27 up to 29 in Baka-Tsuki, so I'm going to tackle each volume one-by-one:
Spoiler for volume 29:
Of course, the main highlight for the volume is Yumi giving Touko her rosary in Sachiko's presence. Once again, I can't help but comment on how much more assertive and confident Yumi has become since the early volumes.
On another note, Sachiko feels really off in his volume (cramming, running, getting drunk on energy drink), but I guess that was the point. It will probably be addressed next volume, so I look forward to that.
Well, on the whole, this was a nice transition volume.
I've grown accustomed to seeing Yumi, Yoshino, and Shimako (arguably) as assistants to the student council, but this volume really hammers down the point that their time to lead the student council and, in turn, the entire student body has come. If the event they successfully planned out and executed was any indication, they can now stand up on their own.
P.S. It was nice knowing that a certain someone still holds the reins of the newspaper club.
