Chiaki from
Nodame Cantabile certainly is a strong male lead ( though he does have.. phobias about things
) - also if you liked Honey&Clover , I really suggest you check out Nodame Cantabile as well.
Naoki from
Itazura Na Kiss is an absolutely generic male lead with a pair, though I don't like him that much, its a great romance though.
If you're willing to look into something with a healthy mix of action, I'd have to recommend
Full Metal Panic! to you. There is a lot of action, but (I've forgotten how many times I've said this) there is good romance in this, and it really shines in the third season. Of course,
Sousuke is as far from a whiny loser as you could get.
