I'm pretty sure that I would end up killing myself if I lived in the world of Shin Sekai Yori, honestly - it's such a miserable, god awful place. Total nightmare of an existence.
And I'm not sure why Saki and Satoru were so disgusted by the Queerats doing that to their Queen... she wasn't much more than a mindless, utterly crazy animal that indiscriminately killed anyone who tried speaking to her. Killing her in what basically amounts to self-defense doesn't seem too loathsome to me.
