Spoiler for ep5: ...we never get an explanation for Wakana's ill-temper toward her mother. Both her parents are/were rather feckless. Maybe she always felt she had to be really on top of things, in order to keep it all together. And maybe her mother did something that impeded her studies. I'd like there to be something more, anyway. I was so frustrated with Wakana, until the end, when the dam burst -- or at least started to crumble. Lots of credit to Takagaki Ayahi. Yes, it's drama.
