My only exposure to this franchise has been through health care doujinshi and the odd nicovideo, but I thought the first episode introduced... 12 (?) characters in a rather unique way that let you see their personality quirks and hid the odd cuts and scene juxtaposition in a sort of docu-film vehicle. The silent protagonist was kind of a charming way to do things, but that changes next episode huh.
