But I guess they are forgoing logic for the sake of stupidity as far as the title is concerned.

They're doing it for the sake of not being in violation of the court ruling obtained by Cameron which prevents them from using the "Avatar" name. It's nothing to do with stupidity, except Cameron's and the judge who ruled in his favor.
